Oil-fired warm air:

This is going to be a short page, as not being an oil-fired technician I don’t have a great deal of experience of oil-fired warm air heating systems.

There are definitely a few around but none as far as I know in current production or supported with a supply of spare parts by the original manufacturers.

Having said that, older oil boilers are pretty simple devices on the combustion side, often with a complete pressure jet burner assembly which can be generic in design and repeatedly repaired like the apocryphal “Trigger’s broom”. The warm air side is also very simple and the main fault is usually failure of the motor driving the air circulation fan. As with the ancient electric warm air systems, most oil-fired warm air boilers are many years old and the warm air fan motor can usually be removed and replaced with a new equivalent motor.

No-one however, to my knowledge, is making new oil-fired warm air boilers should your need one, but there is still the possibility of fitting an ordinary modern water-filled oil boiler and using it to drive an “air handler” such as the Johnson and Starley “Aquair” water-to-warm-air converter to continue to supply warm air into your existing warm air ductwork.

For servicing you oil-fired warm air system any OFTEC-qualified heating engineer can do it, there is no obligation (as with gas) to find someone with a specific qualification to work on oil-fired warm air appliances.

Thats about all I have to say on oil-fired warm air for the time being…
