About me, Mike the Boilerman:

I'm Mike Bryant, also known as Mike the Boilerman. I specialise in repairing oder boilers including Johnson and Starley warm air heaters and associated water heaters. I’ve been on the Johnson and Starley list of recommended service agents for approximately 17 or 18 years now. If you call me for a repair to your warm air heater it will always be me who turns up, not an employee or subcontractor who may or may not be fully familiar with your appliance. I repair them quickly and efficiently usually on the spot, using my extensive knowledge and experience with warm air systems, and parts I’ll probably already have in stock in my van. 

I am based in a small village near Hungerford, Berkshire and have been in the building industry most of my life. My early career was in mechanical and electrical engineering but I soon tired of wearing a suit to work and spending all day in an office so I abandoned that and went to work at Windsor Marina repairing and maintaining boats. I still have a keen interest in boats and vintage diesel engines. 

I gravitated to plumbing work and joined what is now the Institute of Plumbing and Heating engineering in around 1984 (I can’t remember exactly!). I ran my own plumbing business for many years then started a luxury bathroom shop in around 1995 which I ran for a few years. There, we had teams of installers fitting the bathrooms but I learned an old lesson a second time over, finding I missed being out and about doing the actual work. I sold the bathrooms business and went out fitting bathrooms by myself but eventually reverted to plumbing and heating, and registering with CORGI (Now Gas Safe Register) in 2002. I’ve been specialising in boilers ever since, and specialising in boiler fault tracing and repair only, since about 2005. These days I tend to specialise in older or more unusual boilers, especially those boilers other technicians say cannot be fixed. Sometimes they are right but not always! Customers often find me by googling the name of their boiler when they’ve been told they must have a new one, and find the things I’ve written about repairing their supposedly unrepairable boiler.

I'll drive anywhere reasonable to repair a heating system but much of my work is in Berkshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire. If you are further away then by all means try me. Travelling costs will be higher but if you are happy with that then I'm happy to do the travelling.

My goal is always to get your appliance working again so if you are considering repairing your yourself then I’m happy to give you email or text advice and perhaps guide you to your own successful repair. P.S. I have noticed I now have a sort of ‘imposter’ in Liverpool. A company has been set up called “Mike the Boiler Man Ltd”. For the avoidance of doubt this is not me, please don’t confuse us ;) There are probably others too as I can’t possibly be the only Mike around who mends boilers. Ah well…..
