BOS00528 and similar fan assemblies:

Discontinued but still repairable…

A while ago now Johnson and Starley discontinued the air distribution fans for most of their warm air boilers made up until 2015. Discontinued fans include the BOS00528 fan for the popular J25-32 model and J32 HISPEC models. Lots of people are being told they must replace their boilers when this fan in theirs fails. which is simply not true. The actual failure is almost always the electric motor, with the bearings in the (sealed) motor growing stiff with age and dust and either refusing to turn, or making a loud screaming noise when starting up and/or running.

While the whole fan assembly cannot be obtained, new motors can be purchased from third party motor manufacturers. The fan can then be re-built using a brand new motor with new bearings that run silently. This can be done for most warm air boiler fans (not just for the J25-32 and the J32) including other makes such as Balmforth, Brink and Lennox.

If your warm air fan has failed, feel free to contact me. I can either visit and fit an exchange fan (if you are within driving distance of me near Marlborough Wiltshire), or you can send me your old fan in the post and I’ll return it to you with a new motor, fitted and tested. This usually takes me a couple of days once I receive it.

Cost to repair your BOS00528 or similar fan is currently £372.00 including VAT and postage back to you by secure Royal Mail Special Delivery.
