Brink boilers were for a few years back in the 1990s, imported and sold by Johnson and Starley. Brink are a Dutch firm making warm air appliances. I encounter few of these nowadays but they are superbly well constructed and durable, basic and old-fashioned.
These are physically very large boilers, old-fashioned in design and ranging in heat output from 12kW (B12) to 36kW (B34). All are ‘open flue’ in format and I remember them for being very time-consuming to service (endless screws to remove and fiddly to dismantle). They come in two formats: up-flow and down-flow, the down-flow versions having the suffix “D” added to the model number.
The thermocouple which monitors the pilot flame is the main point of failure and the correct part is extraordinarily expensive as a spare part - £80 as opposed to under £10 for the equivalent part in other boilers. In fact most parts for this boiler seem to be unreasonably expensive. I’ve just looked up the fan cost for the B23 illustrated - £975.21 plus VAT.
Unlike other Johnson and Starley warm air appliances, the Brink did not have the option to have a hot water circulator. Separate provision for hot water was always necessary which I think led to these Brink boilers never becoming particularly successful for Johnson and starley.
There is very little information about these still available. Even J&S don’t include the manual or user instructions on their website but from memory they were very simple boilers, either ON or OFF, with no modulation or proportional control. Johnson and Starley will email you a copy of the manual if you call them and ask.
